Goughie and Gater: le tour!!
Well we are ready to move on from Lima already. It's freezing cold here and you guys are enjoying a red hot summer! We've spent the last few days in Lima filling in time before our flight to Cusco first thing tomorrow morning. We have wandered past the beach (but been nowhere near the sea not only because it is too cold but also because it is too dangerous. Nice.).
Met up with Laura and Amy from NLS and ended up stupidly following the lonely planet's recommendation for a restaurant. The pizza only cost 1 pound but it was the most dodgy bar i think we have ever been in. Apparently a Hawaiian pizza over here comes complete with peaches and peach syrup! Managed to find our way to a relatively normal bar afterwards for some of the local pisco sour (made from some kind of spirit, lime and egg whites) and Cristal.
Shona convinced us to visit the "most significant Inca ruins in the Lima area" (again, a quote from the lonely planet). Turned out to be a pile of rubble and the most interesting thing to see were the bits of tree which were remaining in something that was meant to resemble a house.
Today we thought we would be cultural and visit some of the monuments in central lima. Turns out it is a Catholic bank holiday and so our plans to visit the inside of the cathedral were thwarted. Managed to get ourselves into the San Francisco Monastery and round the catacombs. Saw the first bit of sun all week today, got very excited that we could actually take off our jumpers for a few minutes.
Next stop is Cusco tomorrow, although it'll be another middle of the night transfer as our taxi is booked for 3.20am. Great.
Enjoy the sunshine and football!
Love Claire and Sarah xx
