Hello! I have been a busy girl since my last blog. We made it to Franz Josef where the weather was yucky. I didn't stop raining and we even had a power cut on our first night there so it was like being back in Fiji, having to get ready for bed by torch light! The next day was the day of our glacier walk. We had opted for the half day walk as we weren't sure what to expect. It rained almost the whole time but was still great to do! They had steps cut into the ice which we walked up with a little help from spikes on the bottom of our shoes. Some were quite steep but most were easy enough, and some even had a rope to hold onto as well. We were in the slow group with some oldies which meant that unfortunatly we didn't get to go quite as far as other groups. It was a bit strange being up on this mountain of ice, with these huge ice walls towering above you. We were all dreading the way down as the fear of slipping is even worse, but as long as you step confidently, and get those spikes in the ice it's easy.
We then moved on to Wanaka, where we had a little rest and the most we did as a little pedalo ride on the lake.
We are now in Queenstown, the city of extreme sports! This is where everyone does a skydive- and Lucy will be doing hers tomorrow! I'm too much of a chicken to do it! Lucy is starting to worry as she has realised she doesn't like heights!!
We met Helen here again in Queenstown, and yesterday on our first full day here she convinced us to do the shotever jet- the "fastest and most thrilling jet boat in the world!!" I was slightly nervous as it does 360 spins but as soon as we got there and saw the other boats out on the water it looked really cool! It's scary (in a good way) as the driver gets really really close to the canyons on either side- I kept ducking as it felt like i was going to hit my head (lucy and helen made me sit right on the edge so I would get the wettest!) It goes do fast, and then suddently he spins it right round in a full circle right near huge boulders! It's amazing, and we were laughing the whole way round- I want to do it again now! They were supposed to make a film of you as you do it, and I realy wanted to get it to show everyone what it was like- but the film on our boat didn't work which is so annoying! We tried to convince them to give us a free ride so we could be videoed but it didn't work! I have bought the photos, but I wanted you all to see the spins and just how close we were to crashing!!
In the afternoon we went in a gondola (a cable car) up this huge mountain over-looking Queenstown, where you can get luge rides down part of the side of the mountain. There are two tracks, the scenic and the advanced- so we did both! They were excellent- like little go karts. We should have bought more rides as we could have got 7 rides for only a few dollars more but at the time that sounded like a lot, but now we wished we bought more!!
After that we decided to do something a bit calmer and played mini-golf, which I won! Thanks to all the hours practice at Little Hampton I'm sure!!
We went out in the evening, our first real night since being in NZ and was a good night. Today we are taking things a bit slower as we did so much (and spent so much yesterday!) We wanted to go and watch people plummet to their doom doing the bungy jump but we need to find a way of getting there!
Hope you're all doing well! xxx
