After we left Edersee, in the rain again amazingly, we decided to have one more day on the fairy tale road to see what it brought. The trail was supposed to take us through Red Riding Hood's home village, where Snow White lived with the dwarfs and what I was really looking forward to - the home of Garden Gnome manufacturing! In fact we saw some pretty villages but not much in the way of fairy tale stuff and not enough Gnomes at all! And as the rain didn't let up we decided just to keep on driving and head for Koblenz which is where the Mosel and the Rhine join and a good place to take a Rhine cruise.
We duly did that on Thursday - still raining but not too bad - and it is a lovely boat ride. We went from Koblenz to Bacharach which is apparently the best bit seeing loads of castles and the LoreLei rock in about 4 1/2 hours, then getting the train back. By the end of the cruise the sun was out and it was lovely and I'm so glad we went then when it was quiet as on the Saturday we saw other boats on the Mosel and they were mobbed.
Koblenz itself was quite a nice town but Thursday was a Bank Holiday - Ascension Day apparently - and nothing was open, apart from fortunately for us the boats. So we didn't do much there and the next day decided to head on to the Mosel valley which we'd heard was lovely.
