Now this was a good choice and probably the place we've enjoyed most, certainly in Germany. Maybe we are just shallow people as this is a very touristy part of the country but it does really have a holiday atmosphere - and of course it is helped by the sun shining.
The Mosel valley is a big part of Germany's wine production - we are actually camping in a vineyard at the moment, now is that civilised or what? -and every other building is a WineStube or WineGut which I don't exactly know what they mean but as they seem to be passing out wine with great frequency and minimal cost, they seemed like good places to be to me! There are also lots of nice little restaurants and everything is geared to having a good time.
We visited the castle in Cochem which is the main resort town here - we thought we'd better see the inside of one. You have to do a tour but as they gave us a translation it was all quite nice. We've also been walking and cycling as there are loads of cycle paths and trails to follow. I particularly liked the nordic walking paths where people tend to use the sticks like ski sticks but without the skis. Every so ofthen they have boards exhorting you to do stretching exercises on the way round which is amusing but the views were great!
