We couldn't quite believe the magnitude of magnificence that embodies Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples that have made it one of the great wonders of the world. We're so glad that Cambodia was in the way from getting to Bangkok from Ho Chi Minh City. We got to have our own tuk tuk driver for 3 days who chauffeured us around the Angkor Wat site. We also managed to go to Beng Mealea which has been completely taken over by the jungle, so we spent day pretending to be Lara Croft and Indiana Jones minus being chased by large boulders or dodging spears.
It was amazing.
The temples we most liked we're Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Prasat Kravan and Beng Mealea
We found these particular amazing but each had its own uniqueness. These temples age from ...........
Angkor Wat is incredible. Not just the 5 towers in the centre but the stone carved corridors around it.
Bayon has 216 faces spread over 54 towers.
Ta Prohm is described as the tomb raider temple to the tourists. This didn't impress us so much but the trees towering above galleries, gate houses, corridors some how managing to take the weight of the tree and the roots coming down the walls.
Prasat Kravan was one of the first style of temples to be built, the middle temple has 3 stone carvings inside with limited light which gives them an eerie feel to it.
From the pictures you'll see we were blown away and they don't give it justice the sites deserve, but it gives you an insight to what we've seen.
We're now on our way to Battambang, if we ever get there as the bus broke down and the driver went off to find replacement parts. 2 hours and still weighting!!!!
