Another sleep in was on the agenda for today I think the heat and humidity here is wearing us out. It was a slow morning with a late breaky, swim and Karina and myself went for a walk to have a look at the perfurme river and the streets around our hotel.
We are starting to get sick of all the people annoying you as you walk around. For almost the whole walk along the river Karina and I were practically escorted by ladies putting their argument in for us to get a ride in the Dragon Boats.
The market people and the cyclo riders seem a little bit more persistant here and are almost garaunteed to follow you if you don't ignore them completely.
It seems like the whole of Vietnam is trained in the same way to sell their tourist stuff. They start with "Where you from?" As soon as we say that we are Australian they cycle through: "G'day Mate!", "Aussie, Aussie Aussie!" "Oi, Oi, Oi", "Crickey" and always finish with "You very handsome!" Next time we are going to try saying we are from America or England to see what they do.
Upon checking out we all went for another walk and found somewhere for lunch before making our way to the airport. This flight was much more uneventful than our last domestic one however, our bus trip from the airport into Hanoi was noteable. After a week in Vietnam traffic we were in our first car crash! To be honest its suprising it didn't happen earlier. No need to worry though, most of the traffic here is very low speed, another car was trying to do a very low speed pit manouver resulting in a rub of its bumper on the back of our minibus.
We checked in and settled into our hotel room before taking on the streets of Hanoi. The "Seasons of Hanoi" was the destination of choice, a recommended traditional Vietnamese restaurant in a French Villa". The walk was quite a journey with almost all of us having a go at navigating but mostly just being lost and walking around the same block a few times! The restaurant was only found when we gave up and decided to eat at the next clean looking place we saw!
We somehow managed to get the waiters/waitresses a little upset from the start. I'm not sure whether it was because we were not aptly dressed, that one of the waiters stole our table from another about to seat other guests or that the first thing we struggled to order was beer.
Dinner was probably one of the nicest meals we have had over here and the waitresses moods all improved. We tried some local eel, which tasted very bland (like potato). For about $20 we enjoyed a three course meal with about 3 drinks.
