Today we are heading to Maralinga, we don't know how long it will take, but we should get there in good time.
Fuel at Streaky Bay was 115.9. We left at 8:30 and stopped in Ceduna to get a couple of things. Our next stop was Penong. I knew they had lots of windmills and had read about the newest windmill (you'll have to turn sideways to see the picture). They are claiming it's the biggest windmill in Australia, and it's called 'Bruce'. It came from up Glendambo way and they ran a fundraiser to pay for the new blades. It's awesome. There are lots of other windmills, some quite old, including a wooden one. They have 15 more to go up.
Eventually we turned right of the Eyre Highway on to a road that was just as good, for 78km. Then we turned off for 62km of dirt - and boy was it rough (corrugations). We thought it would never end. We eventually got to the railway line at Oldea - only 48km to go. We stopped at the railway line and saw that a shocker was hanging - a bracket had broken, so the next 27 of dirt we took very slowly even though it wasn't as rough.
We eventually got in to Maralinga and set up camp at dusk, heating a precooked tuna casserole in the dark. The amenities were good - they were built in containers (one for men and one for women) inside a shed.
