Day 2 - Mt. Bryan to Farina Ruins
We slept through the 7:00am alarm, waking up at about 7:45. It was a cold night. We were glad to have the hotties. We went for a walk around the town (10 mins) and up a country road. It is very pretty. When we were walking back there was low cloud over the generator windmills that are along the ridge behind the town. It was very pretty. We had brekky and got on the road.
The first stop was Peterborough to buy some groceries. A huge goods train went through when we were there. It is the main line between Sydney and Adelaide & Perth. We had a good drive and stopped at Hawker for lunch. Hawker is the turn off for the Flinders Ranges and there were quite a few cars in and out. It's really starting to feel like a holiday. We kept heading north and stopped at Copley for a coke and coffee. There was a 'Fun over 50' tour bus there and one of the tour guides stopped for a chat. They go to some good places around Australia. We will check out their website. Not far up the road is Lyndhurst which is the start of the dirt road. 25km past Lyndhurst is the Farina campsite at Farina Ruins.
It is quite a big site and costs $5 a head. There are showers, but you have to light the fire (we didn't) and loos. We chatted to some people there, watched the sun set from the ridge (very pretty) and went to buy some wood for a fire ($5.00 for a railway sleeper). It was too big to fit in the car, and we didn't have anything to cut it with, so we went foraging and found enough wood to have a 15 minute fire after our tea of fried chicken, deb spud, surprise peas and tinned carrots (it was better than nothing). The stars were magnificent.
