Day 5 - Birdsville
Today was a rest day. We slept in and then had a leisurely breakfast. The nights are getting warmer - I only need my winter pj's (not the layers underneath). I get hot through the night under the winter doona, but it is cold in the morning.
It was a beautiful day today. Blue sky, no clouds and a cool breeze. We went for a walk around Birdsville, starting at the Information Centre, collected information and bought some souveniers. We walked past the pub & airport and to the unique power plant. They use the hot water from the Artesian Bore to generate their town power, and for their town water.
We had a look at the hospital museum and went back to the bakery for lunch.
The afternoon was r & r and then we drove out to Big Red to watch the sun set. The lake this side of the dunes is full so there is a long detour to get to Little Red and Big Red. We walked up Big Red (I wouldn't let Merv drive up) had a drink at the top (that's where the photo was taken) while we watched the sun set. I took lots of photos but didn't get the colours (I really do have to learn how to use my digital SLR). It was very pretty.
Back to camp and cooked our tea of chicken, deb spud, surprise peas and tin carrots in the camp kitchen.
