Yana taxied me to train station for 7.30 train as taxis are so unreliable.
Now at the start of journey to Salt Lake City. Spectacular scenery. Starting from desert and climbing. Brilliant blue sky and snow in gullies. Worthwhile spending time in the viewing car with the high curved windows.
The food on the trains has been disappointing. This morning's breakfast scrambled eggs were like rubber.
The journey was the most beautiful journey I have ever experienced.
Enjoyed chatting to some young Mennonites who were off to an annual get together in California.
I made the mistake of sitting next a miserable woman who was really bitter about Obama. I moved away sharply. People either want to talk religion or politics. Never a good idea.
Nice hunky fellow opposite me, advised and helped me with the onward travel arrangements and let me use his phone.
It was 10.30pm and I called a bus company to travel north the next day. I asked to go to Missoula and they said they don't go there. I said where do you go she said West Yellowstone. That is where I wanted to go but I was told it was impossible by so many people. So I booked straightaway for the next morning.
Took a taxi with a Pakistani driver to Sugarhouse where my airbnb host was.
The taxi fare of $20 was more than the cost of the room with Alicia. She was very kind to wait up for me as it was nearly midnight. The house was a traditional bungalow and the bedroom clean and a very comfortable bed.
Would love to have stayed longer.
When I have completed the 15 day rail pass I shall slow down. Up until now I have travelled over 3000 miles overland. It is too much.
