My IPhone is playing up. It cuts out unpredictably. Yesterday at Salt Lake City I nearly overslept as my alarm is on the phone- as are so many other things including camera.
The bus ride was uneventful. I chatted with the driver. Felt glad I hadn't hired a car as it would have been tedious. Had to change at Regsburg and while waiting for the bus the girls in the motel said to help myself to coffee and I could use their computer to pass the time.
The next stretch was more interesting seeing the Teton snow-covered mountains. I was talking to Andy who is a bicycle mechanic and and extreme cycling fiend. When we arrived at West Yellowstone the driver didn't even know where the visitors bureau was. The town is really not that big. Andy stuck with me and carried my bags until I settled into a motel. I asked for the cheapest and was sent to the Ho-Hum motel. I was warned that there might be a smell of cat pee. And there was. It was awful, but only in the office. The room was dusty but had clean sheets.
Many motels had closed when there was the shutdown.
I had asked re getting into the park but the tours weren't running now. It was suggested that I make a sign and stand at the park entrance. Andy suggested 'BRIT TO YELLOWSTONE OR BUST'.
That evening I went into a bar and had a glass of wine. People were friendly and we started chatting- mainly about the size of a plate of nachos, delicious but too much to eat.
The young fellow next to me turned out to be a young Australian travelling on his own with a hired car. I press ganged him into taking me with him. What a relief! I didn't need to hang out at the entrance with the sign.
So today, we have had a wonderful day day in Yellowstone. It was cold and frosty in the morning but all day there was not a cloud in the sky.
Quote-' Yellowstone the world's first National Park. Home to towering geysers, majestic waterfalls, bubbling hot springs and mud volcanoes'. There were many bison and elk and we also saw a wolf and a great grizzly bear. It has been a great day and the highlight of this trip. Especially as I was made to believe that the park would be closed and difficult to reach by public transport.
The only problem was that my IPhone didn't work most of the time so I couldn't take many photos and unable to take a picture when Old Faithful blew.
