Overnight train from Rangpur.
Slept in my salwar kameez and then wore if all day-ugh!
Arrive Dhaka 5.30 am. Walked from train station to airport not far but crossing roads is a risky business.
Waited for the airline offices to open to buy a ticket to Cox's Bazaar which cost £40. Took CNG to the Gulshan area to look at shops but nothing opened until 10am. Decided to go to the Viator guest house which also has a very good handicraft shop attached and I had breakfast there. I chatted to an English woman who taught village women to embroider and then sold their work in England.
Took a CNG to Aarong which is recommended for souvenirs and handicrafts but I wasn't impressed. Then just for interest went to Agora which is a proper western style supermarket.
Having wasted enough time made my way to the airport and the flight to Cox's Bazaar. This flight saved me much time and discomfort by avoiding polluted Chittagong.
I had made a reservation at Hotel Silver Shine. They had asked me if I wanted airport pick up and I said no need. However it was quite a nice surprise to see a cheeky chappie with a board saying Hotel Silver Shine welcomes MICTHELL. Well things continued in the same vein. It was just the sort of place I don't like to stay in -so pretentious. There were so many staff falling over backwards making a show of being helpful and caring and getting things so wrong. All quite exhausting. Reminiscences of The Exotic Marigold Hotel.
