Took the Megabus to Little Rock.easy comfortable 3 hour ride. Luckily Taxi waiting and I asked him to take me to the tourist office. The train was not going until 11.30 pm and I needed somewhere to leave my bag.
Aargh -I was just finishing this extra long blog apart from the above and it was deleted so now have to do it all again.
Will just do a quick précis.
Little Rock was great. Even enjoyed the Clinton Presidential Library. Liked the personal stuff. The presidential limousine and the furnishings of the Oval Office. Some of the lavish presents given to him like gold jewel encrusted swords or even huge pearl and diamond earrings for Hillary. The one from John Major was a Birmingham ink stand! Actually I couldn't see it, maybe it was stolen!
I walked by the riverside area in the brilliant sunshine. Just missed the farmers market but ate in a big hall where I ordered soup and chips from the menu. Classic mistake. Got greasy crisps, soggy bread and the soup wasn't nice either. I really fancied some proper chips(French fries).
Took a trolley bus to the North of Little Rock to a district called Argenta because they used to mine silver there.
This cost 50cents for seniors and the driver gave you a running commentary.
In Washington I paid $36. Okay it was a tad longer.
He dropped me off near the tourist office where I had left my luggage.
It is in a beautiful old house and there was a wedding reception taking place.
Tried to sneak round the back as I felt obtrusive amongst all the beautiful trendy people.
As I discretely tried to walk in the door a woman greeted me with 'You must be the Amtrak lady'. I suppose that is better than 'bag lady'.
She was the manager Shahala who I hadn't met. It was Helen who offered to let me leave the bag. Shahala and Helen in photo above.
They then invited me to sit with them as they had to just stay there until the reception was over. As we couldn't talk with the noise I was able to take my time and that is why I wrote more than usual and now have lost it.
It was fun watching the wedding party that became louder as they drank more and more and more Jack Daniels.
There was no food left over but Helen found me some delicious cake.
There was a lot of drink left over and Helen insisted I take a bottle of red. It is extra large and I am lugging it around.
My train wasn't going until 11.30pm and Helen kindly took me to the station. Earlier she had leant me her phone to make some changes on my ticket which seemed easy and efficient. However at the station the conductor had no record of me so I had to queue up at the ticket office. The man there was having problems. The train came in and the conductor said he wouldn't be able to hold the train. Panic!! Anyway eventually he gave me my changed ticket and I had to run.
