Amanda's Adventures
(I decided to start a fresh as such a lot has happened.)
The next morning (Monday) we took the train to Ahmedabad which is where Ghandi came from. It was a nice place and the people were very friendly. They were facinated by us and would crowd around us asking questions. some of the group found it a bit intimidating but I though it was great and jen and I wen't off round the markets together without feeling threatened at all.
I'm skipping a bit though as the train ride took over 7 hours, and as soon as I woke up I knew something wasn't right. I was very poorly (worse than Goa) and had to keep running to the toilet on the train (seriously not good) to throw up. I managed the journey though and I'm still alive. Its all part of the fun- he he he.
Everyone in the group thinks I'm really unlucky as I have been taken sick twice and had my card swallowd i just over a week! Its become a good point of conversation though. They've also been taking care of me and checking I'm okay all the time and giving me things, so its nice. If you have bad luck here then everyone rallys round to help.
We then headed to Udaipur, which is a city built on a holy lake. Its also where they filmed the James Bond film Octap**** Udaipur is amazing- I loved it. we had a great place to stay and everyone is friendly. They had a bad tourist season last year so they were glad to see us. we all had a great time here and the group had a chance to bond (get it!) a bit more. I will come back to this place it was beautiful. I have pics, but there is an issue with this computer so they will have to wait.
We took a rickshaw ride in the evening which wasn't so much scary as exhilerating. We take them all the time but usually the roads are so busy that they can't go fast. This guy was a maniac. Literally imagine the rickshaw chase scenes in the Bond film, but faster. It was great and we overtook all thy others by miles including half of Udaipur too! its okay though I've got good insurance.
Now we have just arrived in Jodpur at a nice old family house and I am glad that I'm getting the chance to update this. I am having the most mind blowing time of my life. Apart from all the problems India is such a culterally rich, interesting and friendly country (obviously I can only judge by what I have seen). I've seen some of the most beautiful smiles in this Country and usually from the poorest people. I can't wait to see more and am like a little child at Xmas. One of the guys commented on the fact that even when I was at my most sickly I was still smiling, and that's because I'm so pleased to be here.
Take care everyone and I will try to update soon.
