Amanda's Adventures
Hello everyone.
Sorry for the long delay in updating my journal and pics but it has been a busy time and its sometimes difficult to find a good internet cafe.
Its been an interesting week since I last mailed you all. At the end of my Goa trip I was really poorly. Not enough for hospital, but it kep me in bed for a day and a half so it was a bit of a blow! I still had a nice time though. That was my first 'real' taste of Delhi belly!
After that we headed back to Mumbai( which we dreaded) to start our tour and meet the people we would travel with. To cut along story short we managed to find a much nicer hotel so we were happier. That was until we were told that we had to get hold of 135 US Dollars as a local payment (which we thought we would be able to use Ruppees for). The nightmare was that knowone would change our money- they would only sell to an Indian, which is common apparently. So as we had to get the cash for the next day to start our tour we had to try and do it illegally (HELLO!). apparently that isn't all that rare either. To do this though we needed Ruppees (lots of them) and as it was a Sunday we had to use an ATM. Well naturally neither of our visa cards worked in the machine which was great, so in desperation I used my other card -my main card as I left all the others at home. I'm sure that you can guess what happened next- IT SWALLOWED MY CARD> AGHHHH.
Cue the need for numerous calls to the UK to cancel, following many attempts to call the bank manager etc and get my card back. Alas no. This was a bit stressful, as I had to get proof and I wasn't sure if it was a con....etc....etc....etc.
So my cards gone which is a bit of a pain and to happen in the 1st week is a record I'm sure. However the people in Mumbai were so nice and helpful. It was such a different side to the city that we had a hostile welcome from. I met some really good people, who were genuinely trying to help me.
Safe to say everything got sorted ( I won't bore you with the details) and I won't be arrested.
We met up with our tour group for the first time that night. There is 11 of us from England and Oz. They are such a friendly bunch of people and they've been really kind and caring. They were all upset by what happened and its nice because we all get on so well. There are a few couples, some people who came together and some who came alone. Some who have travelled before or are half way through their adventures and some for whom this is a new experience. Its great that I am with so many like minded and interesting people.
