As an anniversary gift I took mum and dad down to Margaret River for the weekend on the 12th and 13th of July. Our cottage was compact but all we needed for the weekend. Dad was excited because there was a log fire. On Saturday morning we were picked up for our 'Cheers' wine tour and taken to a BBQ on the river. It was raining but we're Scottish and had our BBQ outside on a picnic bench! We had a great day tasting wines, going to the Venison farm, tasting cheese, tasting chocolate and visiting a micro brewery. Serious indulgence! That evening we went for a lovely meal in Winos restaurant and had an early night in preparation for whale watching.
On Sunday morning we drove 40km South to Augusta, the last stop in Australia before the Antarctic for our whale watching trip. It was AMAZING. Within minutes of being in the open ocean we saw a group of Southern Right Whales and Humpbacks. In the two hour trip we never had more than a five minute period where we were without whales. It was truly a magnificient, once in a life time experience. A beautiful end to the trip was a humpback breaching off the side of the boat. One of the most value for money trips I have done since I've been in Australia.
