So yes, as mentioned, Llangollen is a very nice place - small but action packed. Independent shops thrive and lots of very decent boozers and places to dribble gravy. Our first foray into Sin City took us across the bridge over the Dee and into the aptly named Bridge End Hotel - the weather was dry so a lot of people were sat outside on the benches. We eventually got chatting to some of the local guys and had a general chat - they told us that Llangollen tourism hasnt really come back since the days of the Covid Drama, probably because everyone was going to places in Britain when they were allowed and Llangollen was at the time a very busy place.....since then, internation flight is now back in full swing and everyone now heads to Spain etc.
The Locals told us to check out The Corn Mill on the other side of the Bridge. A very nice pub which still has the water wheel on the side...so obviously converted from original use. Locals and tourists blobbed about ...the locals boozing by the bar and the tourists dribbling gravy at the tables. You can spot the tourists as they all wear the same sort of clobber...walking boots, tresspas lightweight trousers and a bright blue or Red branded wet coat. Seems like they wear these regardless of if they are hiking or not. ...and I've got the same uniform myself. So if you want to blend in with the crowd and go about unnoticed, ths is the gear. Handy if you're the town drunk and want to avoid the local constabulary.
We then had a wander round the town in search of other establishments. I wanted to head back to the gaff to change into some clothes so headed back...only to realise as usual, I had no idea where it was. So I wandered back and forth. Eventually I nipped into a local hotel and asked to use their washroom. Certainly, in there. It was only when I was washing my hands that I noticed there were two older ladies with blue rinses grasping their necklaces at the fact that a male oik was using the "Ladies". I'd gone into the Ladies without noticing. So that was fun.
We ventured to a few more boozers and called it a night. Tomorrow was going to be a walking day.
