We spent 3 nights in phuket, we had lots of fun but it was a bit seedy for our liking! We then went to phi phi islands where we stayed for a week because we loved it! It's a beautiful island and we were really lucky with the weather. The highlight was the open water diving course that we took, it was 3 days long and after that we were all qualified scuba divers!! On our first dive we saw a shark, octopus, stingrays, and turtles! (aparently thats really good for a first dive!). We spent one afternoon out on a canoe and went to a secluded beach where we saw a monkey! We had some great nights out with the dive instructors and we met some lovely people as well as meeting some girls we met in koh phangan.
We got to Krabi on Wednesday morning and we are staying in a lovely guesthouse. In the evening we decided to go for a quiet dinner, as we were very tired, however things got very dramatic! Gemma heard someone discussing an earthquake....but we didn't think much of it at the time and preceded to an irish pub (where gareth enjoyed his 1st pint of guiness for a very long time). On our way home the streets were filled with police and we were informed that there was a tsunami alarm (it was more worrying that we couldn't understand the thai tannoy speach!). We thought it would have been a small earthquake and they were just being cautious...however we then saw on the news that it was 8.2 on the richter scale and the epi-centre was in the middle of the indian ocean! (not good)! it was tense for a few hours but the lovely staff where we are staying finally told us that the scare had been lifted! (pheeewww!).
We're heading to kuala lumpar early tomorrow...and we're all safe! (apart from katie and her (thousands) of insect bites and one huge jellyfish sting!
Lots of love, the gang xxxxx
