Hey everyone! Well since we are way overdue for a post we thought we better update you on the last 4 weeks!! (and also to please edd!)
So after leaving thailand we travelled down through malaysia and singapore (only a couple of nights in each place), then flew to Cairns, Australia. We were a bit lazy and ended up staying here for a week and didn't really do much! But we met quite a few people and katie met up with her cousin, 2 of the girls we met we have bumped into at every stop down the coast! Everyone does the same route so you end up bumping into loads of people. After cairns we started making our way down the coast travelling via the lovely greyhound buses! We spent one night in mission beach then went to magnetic island where there was (another) full moon party! but this one was no way near as good as the thailand one. We also went to a koala sanctuary where we got to hold a koala, as well as a baby crocodile, a snake and random lizards!
Our next stop was airlie beach where we went on a 3 day/2 night sailing trip round the whitsunday islands which were beautiful, although sleeping on a boat was an interesting experience! We met loads of people and had the most fun that we'd had since getting to australia so far. Airlie beach itself is small but a fun place, it has an artificial lagoon/swimming pool where everyone spends their days (they have them in most places in queensland due to it being unsafe to swim in the sea).
So we then moved on to the town of 1770, which is a really tiny town and totally uncommercialised which was nice for a change. It was the place that captain cook landed in 1770 (hence the name) so it has a lot of history. Here we went on a scooter tour of the town, where all the scooters are done up like harleys! we also had surf lessons - great fun.
Next stop was rainbow beach where we went to fraser island, the island is the world's biggest sand island and you spend 3 days camping on the island and driving around in a jeep with a group of 11 people! it was so much fun and our group was lovely minus 3 girls from new zealand who we had met when sailing and really didn't take to - so obviously they would get put in a group with us where there is no chance of escaping!!
So that brings us to brisbane where we currently are - we have 2 more nights here before moving down to byron bay. Brisbane is gorgeous and it's good to be in a city for the first time in australia - yesterday we explored the centre and tomorrow we are going to steve irwin's zoo. We are all pretty tired as we stayed up til 5am to watch england in the rugby - go england!
Hope you are all well, hopefully we'll get better at updating this site!
Lots of love xxxxx
