Getting lost while exploring
Took the dude from San Franpsycho's advice and followed the map he drew us on the back of a docket to Ocean Beach in search of Trouble Coffee. He had informed us that this place did the best coffee in San Fran and that they started the "toast movement". Yes, toast is the new big thing here and Trouble Coffee started it. He wasn't wrong as the coffee was delicious and the thick cut toast with melted butter and cinnamon was even better! It was the first time I forgot to tip, lucky they had a sign out front that said "tip or die", I quickly went back in to find the tip jar.
We also went next door to a unique little shop called the General Store. I tried on a pair of cute gloves, thought about buying them.....then saw the $88 price tag and felt too poor to be touching them.
When we got off the train we walked past a gathering of people blowing bubbles. You are never too old to appreciate the wonder of bubbles and the joy that they bring.
Finally got to Upper Playground after Sam going on and on since the start of the trip about going there. It's a really cool store and I ended up buying a long-sleeved top. Sam brought a cap and a tee, I noticed he already seemed to own most of the store.
Next, I wanted to find the Full House house. We found it and I got a few token tourist shots out front. Was a bit gutted that the owner has painted it a different colour, but still recognised it straight away. Had me singing the theme song for the rest of the day.
We headed towards Alamo Square Historic District to find the Painted Ladies. But on our way, we heard music and saw a crowd in the distance so detoured. It was the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. We had a beer, a feed and listened to some music. Sam fell in love with a dog, which I admit was cute.
Continued walking to the Painted Ladies and sat in the park with hundreds of other people relaxing in the picturesque setting.
Afterwards, we checked out Valencia Street which a group of French tourists we met at our hostel in LA had recommended. It didn't disappoint and was a long street filled with bars, restaurants and lots of street art! Had some pizza and walked towards the train. Still felt hungry, so stopped at KFC which had an interesting warning sign next to the drink machine "California Proposition 65 WARNING chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm may be present in foods or beverages sold or served here". Mmm finger licking good!
