The day has come!! The moment i have been waiting for.....the Inca trail! Unfortunately, I had eaten something that really didn't agree with me so my start to today was anything but ideal! Nevertheless I was so psyched to get onto this trail I soon forgot about it.
We met up with our guide Edwin in the early hours of the morning and all piled into the van to get to Ollantaytambo, the town at the start of the famous 45km Inca trail. After a quick breakfast, we got briefed at the start of the trek, handed over our passports to be checked, and began! My initial thoughts as we got up the first big hill only minutes into the walk were "dear god what have I got myself into?" Especially when you see the porters, who were half my size, running past with 20kg strapped to their back.
For the most part of day 1, it was a fairly easy trek with a few big hills but nothing nasty, which was good because my bout of food poisoning got worse as the day progressed, and but the time we arrived at the camp I was doubled over clutching my stomach in pain. Without going into too much detail, let's just say that night had to have been in my top 3 worst nights of all time. I finally slept, with a huge dread for day 2 - the hardest of all 4 days.
