I've been excited about this day for a long time....I'm going to see the famous Iguazu falls!
We set off in the morning, first to visit Parque do Aves - a bird park close to the falls entrance. They had so many different types of exotic birds, but it wasn't as nice seeing them in cages as it was to see them in the wild in the Pantanal. There was a gigantic boa constrictor and I got a photo with a slightly smaller one. You can feel how insanely powerful their muscle are even as they sit around your neck. Might be my next pet!
We then headed to the falls. From about 300m away you could already hear them roaring. As we walked down the hill to the viewing platform I got my first glimpse of the most amazing waterfalls on the planet. They spanned a huge distance, in a walking stick shape with the devils throat at the most southern point of the falls. The Brazilian side gives a really good perspective just how huge they are, and as you walk along the river side, there are hundreds of brightly coloured butterflies and swallows ducking in and out of the smaller falls. It was like a scene from Narnia or something. Towards the devils throat side of the falls there was a walking platform that extended right across one of the falls and completely drenched you when you walked along it. I could have stayed there all day!
Once I had taken about 1000 photos, I was dragged kicking and screaming away from there, it really was truly amazing to see. Looking forward to seeing the up close and personal Iguazu tomorrow from Puerto Iguazu, Argentina!
