After arriving at around 5am into Curitiba, we somehow found our way to the hostel half asleep. Thankfully the rooms were ready so we slept for a few hours and then had a tasty buffet breakfast, cake was of course on the menu. They had at least 5 different ones to choose from...I love Brazil but I'm going to be morbidly obese by the time I leave.
I took a walk around the city centre, the road the hostel is on is very similar to La Ramblas in Barcelona, there's lots happening along there so it was cool to check it all out. There's alot of neo-gothic architecture around Curitiba which is all really nice and very European. In the main square the main attraction is the large cathedral which was packed with people attending mass. It was starting to get really hot so we decided to jump on the city tour bus to check out the attractions just out of walking distance. An hour later, in the sweltering 35+ degree heat, the huge line to the bus hadn't moved at all, so we flagged the bus. I went down to the 24 hour street which is this odd futuristic street that has shops that are open 24/7. The rest of the day time was spent eating and sleeping - how boring!
Later on in the evening I was recharged to head out to check out Saturday night in Curitiba. After a tasty dinner and a few brahmas (Brazilian beer) a few of us headed out to a samba club to check out how the original party animals did it. And they sure showed us how to party. The girls had the hugest arses that they shook hard enough to put someone's eye out, while old daddy long legs Georgia tried to keep up but just looked awkward. Kiwis just aren't built to samba. There was a live band playing awesome Latino music so the atmosphere was just how I pictured it. We stayed for a few hours then headed home, stopping to get a totally filthy meat and cheese (that was squeezed from a bag) roll from a street stall on the way home. I could feel my arteries clogging up with every mouthful.
