well here i am on xmas eve in thailand and to be honest no matter how long im away it still hasnt sunk in all the wonderful things iv seen and done and especially now at christmas it just feels slightly surreal. friday i had a very lazy day, theres not much else i want to see or do in bangkok and what is left to do im waiting until mum comes out so im learning to take it easy and chill in backpackers central (otherwise known as khoa san road). i wandered up and down a bit and went for a walk and then in the eve i decided to treat myself to proper food in a restaurant again and the restaurant i chose was packed and they made us share tables which was good as i ended up meetin a really nice guy and we had a really good night out together experiencing bangkoks renowned nightlife, we went to a disused shell petrol station that they have turned into a bar and sat next to petrol pump chatting to a complete stranger with a candle lighting the table drinking a cocktail from a bucket and an outdoor massage place opposite me felt so weird and to make it weirder there were cheesy xmas carols (the kind i play at work) playing in the background - definately a 'bangkok' experience oh and they still had relics of the petrol station all over so the guys loos were pretty much 3 stacks of tyres piled up that they wee into, they didnt have ladies loos as im pretty sure most women would struggle with trying to sit on a stack of tyres!! lol. so i had a really good night that night and when the guy i was with said noone has harrassed him bout ping-pong shows yet i told him to walk down the street with me and 6 different people came over to ask if we wanted to go to one, i must have one of them faces! they were all tuk-tuk drivers that offered and they had these really funny little cards about the shows you could choose to see, definately another 'bangkok' moment. saturday i had to check out of my cosy little guesthouse and move to the hotel where the tour group was meeting, had another lazy day mainly due to the fact i was slightly hungover and then at 6.30pm i met the group, theres 11 of us and everyone seems really nice so far its mainly ozzies and kiwis with 2 americans and im the only brit, im sharing a room with a lovely kiwi girl and we all went out for dinner last night and a few drinks- not too sure what to make of the tour leader yet he seems ok but he rang us up at 7am this morning saying we had to pack and leave the hotel asap because we were going to miss the train - he thought it was evening (not sure if he was joking or still very drunk from last night) wasnt too impressed as by time we figured out he was joking/drunk id had a shower! anyway i got back into bed and slept for another couple of hours, all the others in the group have only arrived recently to bangkok so they are doin some of the touristy stuff that iv done today and im hangin out on khoa san road again, just walkin and talkin to people its a pretty laid back area and you could get stuck here very easily not bothering to go anywhere else. tonight we get the overnight train to chiang mai, apparently there is a 'party' carriage so it will certainly be a novel way to see christmas in thats for sure and then for xmas dinner tommorow night we are going to go to the night markets in chiang mai. merry christmas to everyone, mum i will try to ring you tommorow some time! uncle chris have a great birthday. love to all xxxxxxxx
