hi all, well iv not heard much from many of you i guess your all busy with the christmas period being just over a week away?! mum you said you didnt get my emails from singapore, iv sent you one today have you got it? gran did you get the one i sent you from singapore? well as you probably have all guessed i arrived into thailand safe and sound, the airport is a nightmare it has only just opened in september and there are contradicting signs everywhere and noone (that i could find) that spoke english to help - anyway i made it out the airport but didnt have hotel or anything, finally (after a slight panic) got a really basic but nice guesthouse in the heart of the backpacker area so its very very busy but its good and feels very safe which is what i wanted and its my own private room. just had a wander round the main strip last night as it was late when i arrived in (im 7hrs ahead of england now) because of delays at the airports -and didnt get harrassed walking along, its great and so different to bali - the only people that harrassed me were tuk-tuk drivers and a guy wanting to know if i wanted to see a ping-pong show (rude show) and they actually listened when i said no unlike in bali. then today iv gone to chatuchak weekend market, now that sounds simple but of course it isnt as bangkok is huge, few people speak english and i didnt know how to get there - finally found someone who told me to get the number 44 bus and told me which direction, so i got on the bus and when it started up i started praying, it was mental the bus drivers here are crazy! got to chatuchak which is a huge huge market, the size of manchester at least so spent a few hours there - i was starving but couldnt find a food stall that didnt have meat on and as they dont speak english i couldnt ask for it without (i really need to learn some thai). eventually got a pinapple stall and a waffle stand and then i started to need the toilet, so i went and guess what... it was a squat, well lets just say i attempted it but i dont think i did it right, use your imagination lol! anyway i got back to town after more dramas on the public transport and not knowing where to get off and then i enrolled in a 'thai massage' class which takes 6hrs to learn, iv done 3hrs already today and my ankles and knees are killing me from trying to balance over people, but if i do say so myself im pretty good at it just not as heavy handed as the thais are as i dont like the thought of hurting people, i go back at 10am tommorrow to do another 3hrs and then iv passed - think il need a good massage by then though with all the balancing! the guesthouse im staying at is above a vegetarian restaurant and they do cookery classes as well so im thinking of enrolling in one of them as well at some point, im in bangkok by myself until 22nd and then i start a tour on 23rd. anyway i better get going, love to all! gem xxx
