Ok so we're still in Cairns at the moment, Kat, a friend we've been travelling for aaaagggees with now left us a couple of days ago and has gone to Singapore. Had a great last night out with her though! We went to a place called the Woolshed (which I keep accidently calling the Woolpack) for a $10 meal which was really nice, and included a free drink! Bonus!! It was hoola that night so we all took a flowery neckalce. After a while of drinking there we headed out to the casino!! A first time for all of us!! We all walked in in our flowers which was funny, easy to spot everyone!! Pam went to a slot machine and won $24 straight away!! We were all pretty amazed, but then an aboriginal woman came over saying that Pam had stolen her machine!! So the supervisor guy was called and they had to check the security cameras to see if she had put a reserved sign on her machine (which she claimed she had but hadn't!) So they couldn't do anything about it and Pam was told to keep the money!! Although it had scared us all coz the woman had tattoos all over her face and stuff! I then went off to play some Blackjack! Me and Kat betted $15 each but then lost! So I went back with more and ended up over all winning $15! (without losing anything) woohoo! We didn't like Roulette, decided it was boring, and very confusing!!
So the next day we said bye to Kat! Very emotional and Pam cried lots! Even Kat nearly cried and she's not an emotional person! That day a girl called Rachel moved into our room who had only just arrived from the UK so me and Pam decided we were going to drag her out with us and we took her to Kurranda, we've already been but decided to go again. I bought some presents for people, as did Pam. That day we also booked out Bungy! (eeeek!) Later that night we all tried to get an early night, however 2 Germans had moved into our room and snored soooooo loud!!! Well one of them did, so the other threw a book at her which hit her although didn't stop the snoring! Bad nights sleep!!
Ladies night was next, we all went out and drank free champagne (although I didn't becuase I can't stand champagne!) so I drank the 2 for 1 offers. We all got drunk and danced around as we usually do on our nights out!
Had to get up so so early the next day though - big mistake drinking so much the night before! We'd booked ourselves onto a tour to take us to a place called Tjapukai (try prenouncing that!!) anyway we went there and were picked up at 9:25am!! All not exactly feeling 100%! It was really interesting! We watched an aboriginal dance, taught how to throw boomerangs and generally learned about the Aboriginal culture. Pam was hopeless at throwing a boomerang and just threw it at the floor every time!! It provided laughs for me and Rachel though!
Pam got her hair done the next day, she had it all highlighed blonde which looks realllllly nice!! The sun decided to come out today too (about time!) so we all just sun bathed and topped up the tan!!
Ok, so the Bungy day!!! Yesterday!!! I woke up at 7am not able to get back to sleep because I felt so scared! We were only getting picked up at 1pm! We got dressed and sat round the pool for ages in the sun trying to take our minds off the fact we'd be jumping off a 50 meter platform in a couple of hours! We got picked up at 12:50 (earlier than expected!) and taken to the AJ Hackett sight. There we paid to get DVDs and photos taken. Our first activity was a thing called a Minjin swing. Me, Pam and Rachel were strapped in together so we were lying down then hoisted backwards so we were reaaaaallly high up! Rachel was given the cord to pull, once we saw a light go green we had to pull this cord which would drop us. Me and Pam knew we just wouldn't be able to pull it! So the light turned green, Rachel pulled the cord and we just dropped!!! It was so scary!!! We swung forwards and then backwards which gave me that awful feeling in my stomach when you go on a rollarcoaster. After the 1st swing it was much more enjoyable and not as scary. That lasted about 2/3 minutes. We were then taken down and we all went to get a drink. After doing that I was seriously doubting I was going to be able to do the bungy! Pam and everyone else was well up for it though. After sitting down at the bar for 10 minutes watching others doing their bungy we decided we should start making our way up. We climbed the one million and one steps (obviously not that many but there were a lot!) and apparently the colour from my face completely drained. I'd never felt so scared in my entire life!! Pam, Rachel and Pam's primark friend Laura all seemed fine and were actually excited!! At the top of the platform I couldn't even watch other people do theirs, I just sat on the floor with my head in my hands while Pam was looking right over the edge!!! I had no idea how she could do that?! They then called my name out!! Typical for me to be first but I actually just wanted to get it over and done with! I was given a harness to put on and then sat on a block where they tied my feet up. Everyone around kept laughing at me, I guess it was due to the look on my face! Then it came to my turn (I feel sick just at the thought!) Pam and the others were all shouting words of encouragment as I shuffled my way to the edge of the platform. The guy told me to put my toes over the edge which I did. I was holding his arm with one of my hands and the other hand holding tight onto the railings. He then told me to let go of the railing, I said I couldn't and he said I could so I did. He counted from 5 down to 1 and I was told to dive when he got to 1. He counted down and I looked over at the horizon (which was actually a really nice view thinking back!) Then he got to 1 and I dived forwards, I was so surprised I actually did it!! I was dunked in the water so got soaking!! But it was the scariest thing I've ever done and I never plan on doing one again! Once I did it and got pulled down I was shaking like a leaf so went straight to the bar and downed 4 southern comforts with lemonade which made me feel loads better!
I then sat and waited for Pam to do hers. They were sat at the top for about another hour though!! I thought they'd be pretty much straight after me! Rachel was next! And then it came to Pam. I saw her bright purple shorts at the top of the platform. She was pretty much feeling exactly the same as me! She walked to the edge and froze, saying to the guy she couldn't do it. He replied in a nice calm voice saying 'yes you can' .... well that was enough for Pam! She said OK and just jumped without even being counted down!!! It looks hilarious on the DVD, she did such a nervous wave!! When she made it down she was also shaking like a leaf!! We collected our DVDs and photos and watched them again, making us laugh a lot but also made me feel extremely sick all over again!
Anyway we survived and don't worry we're not planned on doing any more extreme sports any time soon!! (apart from croc wrestling in 2 days)
No only joking! haha!
Anyway not sure when you'll get your next blog, the next one will probably be the 2nd to last one!!! Probably about Ayres rock etc
Missing you all!! Love Gem and Pam xxxxxxx
