Sorry about the delayed blog entry! My fault (Gem's)Â
Anyway, we're out of Noosa now and have spent the past 4 nights in a place called Rainbow Beach. We got the 9:35 bus from Noosa heads on the 8th of May and arrived at Rainbow beach at 12:30. We'd been told there was nothing there and it was just a really nice place, but to be honest I was expecting there to be a little bit more there than what there was. Our hostel was called Frasers and was a really nice place, it was next door to another hostel called Dingoes, the only 2 hostels in the place. We'd paid $2 extra each so that we could all share a dorm - just the 4 of us (me, Pam, Fran and Kathryn) Once we'd checked in we decided to all head down to the beach since it was such a gorgeous day! The beach was amazing, there were about 15 other people on it in total and it was totally unspoiled. The waves there were absolutly huge, the biggest ones we'd seen so far, so you weren't allowed to swim in the sea which we were fine with! After sun bathing for a couple of hours we headed to the shops to buy supplies for the week. All the shops were local butchers, veg shops and one mini supermarket which we all agreed on was the worst supermarket we'd been to. Still it was fun going round all the different shops rather than doing one massive shop in woolworths or something. Back at the hostel we got changed etc and went down to the kitchen to cook. We had bought loads of fresh veg and some chicken theighs - as a team effort we put together the best stir fry ever! And throughly enjoyed eating it! That night there was a pub quiz so we had a team of the 4 of us, a german girl and some other girl from Berlin who we decided was a b**** so we nick named her the berlin b****. There were 3 rounds altogether and every round you won you got a free drink. The first round we only got 6/10, then to all our amazement on the next round we got 9/10!! So we won that round, the 3rd round we thought we'd completly failed at and were sure we hadn't won...however we'd won that round too!! 7/10!! So we won 2 free drinks that night, the quiz 'master' called Forest was just as surprised as us I think! We also met some random Italian guys that night, they disliked english people because apparently every english person they'd met so far had been mean to them. However we changed their mind and they decided english people were actually ok, Pam got a present off one of them, he'd writted 'unforgetable' on a piece of paper and given it to her, very cheesy but very cute at the same time. For the rest of the night we sat around with them while they tried to teach us Italian (we weren't very good at it!)
Next day me and Pam got up early and went for a swim in the pool, after that we all got ready and went down to the beach. At about 2 we headed back to the hostel as we were going on a beach walk that was more of a talk with Forest (the quiz guy)  He told us loads of interesting stuff about how fraser island was created and stuff about the rainbow coloured sand.  That lasted about 2 hours, we then headed back but stopped off at a local pub for a beer before heading back to the hostel. By now us girls had decided we liked Forest and he was a bit of a legend. Him and Pam had sat in the pub having a 'fact fight' he would tell us a random fact about how bamboo was the tallest grass in the world and other things like that, but then Pam came out with the killer fact that he just couldn't beat....Heather had told her it...'did you know that if you ate a polar bear's liver you'd get an over dose of vitamin A' We were all very impressed with this fact Pam had randomly come out with and so she won. That night for dinner we were having scrambled eggs. While we were sat in the kitchen waiting for a pan Forest comes over and spies the eggs. He then tries to show off by juggling them but ends up dropping one. We were all in stitches and had a lot of fun for the rest of the night playing the guilt trip on how we're all going to go hungry because we were one egg down. Over all though the eggs were nice!
For the rest of the night we played some killer pool, surprise surprise none of us won that. We then all sat round one of the tables outside while Forest told us the most amazing true story any of us had ever heard! He was in Africa at the time, and surfing out in the sea. He was on his own and the previous day he's surfed with dolphins and was hoping for the same that day. However rather than dolphins as company he came face to face with a great white. It circled him for approximatly 15 minutes, but to him felt a life time! He knew to raise his legs and arms out of the water so the shark wouldn't be more intrigued. It was at dusk too, the feeding time for sharks! He considered committing suicide at the time by taking a breath under water, so that he wouldn't go through the pain of being eaten alive, he'd seriously thought his time was up. We'd all sat there completly stunned! Anyway he'd survived and managed to catch a wave back into shore. (the shark was over 5 meters long by the way) Anyway to prove his story he'd shown us the photo of him lying on his board being circled by the shark. He hadn't realised that his current gf at the time had taken pics of him, her thinking they were just dolphins again. The sight of the picture sent shivers down your spine!Â
Next day we all got up at 6:15AM! (yes you read that right). The 4 of us were being picked up and taken to Calro Shores harbour where we got a small ferry accross to Tin Can Bay. There we fed 2 wild dolphins which was absolutly amazing! The 2 were called Patch and Mistique. After an hour there we got the ferry back again. Once back at the hostel we all went back to bed! Gem slept til 1 but Pam only slept til around 11:30. That night we all decided to get dressed up, we headed down to the bar for bar games which was fun, Fran took part in 2 out of the 3 games! Once the bar closed we all got some take out beers and headed up to this hut by the beach with a load of the staff from the hostel. There we carried on drinking while listening to the ipodm singing along of course! After that we headed back to the hostel. Drew and Dan (the 2 scottish lads) were going back to their room to watch a film, Armageddon (sp) so we all decided to join them. They went and got loaads of pillows so there were about 15 of them and all camped on the floor. We only got to bed at 4:30 that night! Pam cried lots in that film, just as much as when she watched Pearl Harbour!!
Slightly hung over the next day! The weather was rubbish so we basically chilled out around the hostel all day, reading and sleeping! We got packed up as we were heading off the next day. That night Pam had beans on toast while me, Fran and Kat had baked potatoes with beans, yum! We played pool again that night, as well as playing cards. It was a bit of a quiet one so the bar got shut at 10. Everyone was apparently going next door to the dingoes bar so we decided to go too. The bar was pretty cool! In there Gem saw a guy she'd met in Brisbane, Irish Liam so chatted to him for a bit which was good. We didn't really make it a late on and went to bed round 12:30ish.Â
Next day we checked out and sat around the hostel for 2 hours waiting for the bus which was at 12:30. It was Forests birthday that day so Pam made him a card from all of us which he loved! They were having a party for him that night which we were all gutted about missing. Infact we were all gutted anyway just beacause we were leaving! We'd all absolutly loved that hostel and the general atmosphere.
So we're now in Harvey Bay, about to do Fraser Island tomorrow which you will hear all about very soon! Wish us luck!!!
Loads of love Gem and Pam xxx
