The trip from Nelson to Greymouth was pretty long. We go picked up at about 8am and didnt get to Greymouth til 5pm!
We made a stop on a coastal area famous for its pancake rocks (Scientists still not sure how these are formed) Got some great pics of them to study at home in my own time (Discover how it is done then become famous)
My hostel in Greymouth is the imaginatuively named "Noahs Ark" where each room is themed on an animal. I got the Panda room (complete with its own stuffed panda on the bed). The highlight was also Bez (the 6 month old golden retriever belonging to the owner) Such a cutie.
In the evening did a brewery tour of Monteiths brewery. Really cool - plus with the added advantage of a free tasting and free reign in the bar! (After was an all you can eat BBQ) Got pretty drunk - ended up back at hostel watching superbad!
Today we headed to Franz Josef (world famous glacier). On route we wnded up at a gold panning town with the most unpleasant goat I have ever met. It tried to butt me twice - crazy fool!
Reached Franz Josef at noon and had planned to take a helicoptor up the glacier and then a 2 hour trek - but as we arrived the lovely sunshine gave way to thick cloud - making a heli ride impossible. Plan B was Quad biking and to be honest I am glad of this. They are supercharged Quads capable of 55mph and the trail took us through stream, old river bed, mud plains and rain forest. Got caked in mud but really enjoyed it. I want one of these bikes. They are canadian in orgin.
Tomorrow we head to queenstown...
