Dear All,
Cheers very much for the messages....it is always v nice to get news from home when your away indulging yourself.
Now in Chang Mai....apologies if this blog is largely incoherant but is now 12.30 on wednesday, have been in Chang Mai since 1900 (army clock for you betty) and have been travelling to Chang Mai since 1000 on monday. In order to save a bit of bart we bused it all the way, 17 hours bus ferry and bus to Bankok and another 10 hour bus to Chang Mai. You may think that was tough... but after wising up to the fact that the thai's seem to get a much sweeter deal on the buses than travellers when in bangkok we ditched the TAT offers and headed for the thai local terminal. All the room you could want!!! Enough to swing two cats in and not bump heads and your personal bus steward bringing drinks and snacks at regular intervals. Dressed in a fetching pink suit and stripy pink tie. Its the details that make the blog. The journey wasn't even soured by the overloud thai pop music and thai jacki chan movie. Actually quite entertaining.
South thailand beaches were as expected. Beautiful, paradise. Phi Phi don and Ko pagh nan in paticular both of which you could have thrown a stone into the pale blue ocean from our bamboo huts and lying in bed at night you could still here the waves lapping. For the last few days hammocks have been the main occupation. I used to collapse on the sofa before making it to bed..now after a couple of changs the hammock across our door on the balcony to our bamboo hut proves ample distraction and twice i have woken up looking out on the ocean.
They tell us its monsoon season however all that means is heavy down pours perhaps once a day and thanks to our poncho's which resemble giant condoms we are able to brave even those conditions.
For those of you still with me on this little outline of the past few days i wish you well. Tiredness has set in and off for a little stroll (i.e not entirely sure which way home is) and bed before tomorrows activites. Learning to cook thai style. The fahjita which is my traditional choice of dish for entertaining will as of tomorrow be replaced by the thai green curry.
For those who watched the footy...i think rooney is a wally and spent the night with hels wondering how it is germans are so good at taking penalties. Sven told me they practice from the age of two. Not goran eriksson.
Finally for those who havnt been out here thai's play a version of keep me ups/ volleyball with a straw football. Is brilliant!
Sorry again for incoherant rambling.
Love G and H xxx
