Dunedin - Before we arrived at the hostel we walked up the world's steepest street which was tough on the legs and a difficult climb! Dunedin wasn't the most exciting place and the weather was like being at home i.e rather depressing! It was a small city with not a huge amount going on so with an early start the next morning we went to bed early.
Invercagill - The journey to Invercagill was very long but we had lots of stops including Curio Bay where we saw the petrified forest and a Yellow Eyed Penguin nesting. We then stopped at the bay over the headland and saw some of the 30 resident dolphins jumping in and out of the waves along with the surfers. Invercagill was little bit more lively than Dunedin so we ventured out to get something to eat and then it was early to bed again.
Milford Sound - We left Invercagill bright and early at 7am to make our way to the famous Milford Sound. On our way we saw some amazing views on our way through Fiordland National Park. We drove through Homer Tunnel which is 945m above sea level and 1.2km long. We eventually reached the ferry which would be taking us through Milford Sound. The ferry left at 1.30pm and we had great weather to see the incedible lakes and mountains, we also were lucky to see lots of seals up close. The were many waterfalls which the ferry went under so some of us got wet! It took a couple of hours before we then headed back to Queenstown. We then had 2 more days in Queenstown which was great before our bus left for Christchurch.
Christchurch - We prepared ourselves for the 8 hour bus journey stopping off to see Mount Cook and Mount Tasmin. We saw some amazing scenery on the way before arriving into Christchurch at 4pm. When we arrived we could clearly see the damage that the earthquake had done and our bus driver told us lots about it and which buildings were going to be pulled down, lots of them were tall meaning that Christchurch wouldn't have any skyscrapers left, we were also told that the shopping centre was made out of containers! We quickly checked into our 10 bed dorm before going for a walk around the Botanical Gardens, which were very beautiful and huge. At this point we had got rather hungry so we tried to find somewhere to eat, which proved nearly impossible in a place thats meant to be a city, we ended up asking a lady and she said there weren't many places left and only a few expensive places, we ended up eating at the coffee house where we enjoyed a delicious steak, treating ourselves on our last night in New Zealand!
The next day we flew from Christchurch - Auckland where we would sadly be leaving New Zealand
We had the most amazing 5 weeks in New Zealand, people and memories that we will never forget. We had so much fun and will definetly be going back.
