Hello,
After an extremely long journey we have finally made it to Auckland. The early morning start to get to Brisbane Airport on Friday morning wasn't as bad as we thought it would be as we started the day with hot crossiants and a bacon sandwich (yum!) Olive's tummy felt better so we were all good to fly!
We sat on the tarmac for about an hour before actually taking off, very tedious! This happened to be the best flight we have been on, partly because it was the shortest! Arriving in Auckland was a huge relief to us both that we had finally got here in one piece and our luggage was safe with us again. It hit us that we were now on our own and had to fend for ourselves, so with that in mind we left the airport and hopped on a bus to the city centre. Rather embarrassing getting off the bus as we looked like a pair of idiots trying to heave our rucksacks onto our backs with everybody on the bus staring at us! Anyway we got over that.. after Olive broke her watch whilst trying to get the rucksack on, then we had to trek up the steep hill to Sky City Hotel. Walking in we felt rather out of place as everyone else was dressed smartly and certainly not backpackers! Checked in, had a good nights sleep and woke up the next morning feeling refreshed.
Saturday morning - We met up with Sophie and Katie to explore Auckland before getting a ferry across to Rangitoto Island which was a 20 minute journey. Whilst being quite breezy on the boat there was no breeze what so ever on the Island where we were to hike for an hour up the volcanic island which has been dormant for several hundred years. This was challenging to all of us and we nearly gave up! However reaching the top we all agreed that it was definitely worth the walk as the 360 degree view of Auckland and the surrounding area was incredible!
In the evening we went out for a few drinks as it is Katie's birthday! We experienced drinking alcohol out of tea pots, very weird but good fun! Met some kiwis who thought our accent was amazing and that we have tea and scones everyday?! We told them that they were very wrong and should maybe pay a visit to England one day.
We got back to the Hotel and decided to get room service for breakfast this morning! It was amazing!
Will blog when we have a computer next as we are on the road from tomorrow morning!

Dougie Cox Hi Girls Great to be reading your blog and keeping up with your adventures. Glad to hear that you're both back in peak condition. Looks as if you're having an amazing time, but let me give you a bit of advice - stop staying in swanky hotels, your money will run dry in no time! Where's the next port of call? Look forward to hearing more. Lots of love Dougs & Clairey
