17 April
Back together today and a great day it was too!
Both up pretty early and I went for a run while Dad did a walk around Covent Garden. Back home for breakfast, where Dad confesses to buying about a months supply of English Marmalade with only two days to go, someone will be the recipient of a generous Marmalade donation ( unless of course we can find Paddington Bear!!)
After breakfast went to the Royal Mews which was fabulous. All the old carriages which are real works of art and horses etc. Dad identified the Gold Carriage as the one we need to be suggesting to Sean and Clare is the one to be rented for their wedding!
After the Mews we went to Hamely's (toy shop) so if you're reading this and a family member under 10years old that's probably good news for you!!
We then had lunch at Sacred, off Carneby St. which is a New Zealand cafe and fabulous. After that we went down to the Globe Theatre (recreation of the original Globe where Shakespeare played) for a tour. I'd done this before but even second time around it was fabulous. Even though it is a recreation it just exudes history and is so interesting.
We then returned home, Dad had a rest and I went out to look at a couple of outdoors shops I'd spotted. No purchases though as the shop assistants were too enthusiastic in offering help hence hastened my exit!
We then went up to the Hercules Pillars (pub under Sean and Clare's offices here and where I first met Clare) . As is becoming the norm Dad had Guiness.
Then adjourned to Great Queen Street for a fabulous meal. I tried my hardest to get Bob to try snails but that was a bridge too far. Nevertheless a great dinner!! Thank you Clare and Sean for introducing me to these two places!!

Marie birch Enjoying your posts. You're hitting the ground running, as we expected! Really cool that you've been to Sean and Clare's favourite haunts including Polpo. Maybe the whole family can join them in the gold carriage? Keep up the fun times x
john quinn Perhaps you should have tried to sell the snails to Bob as "Land oysters"? What a precious time to share with your Dad!
Ruth Shame on you Bob not eating the snails! You don't realise what a great delicacy you are missing. Great photos John and great to see you both sharing these experiences together.
Seano Didn't run into Humphreys in the herc did you? He would have loved to see you. Good work on great queen, that snail and bacon salad is legendary.
Jo We read this to Cooper the other night and his eyes lit up and the mention of Hamely's! xx
