I have had no time at all to update this blog so sorry! Its been mad hectic and I only have a few minutes to write so its gonna be brief!
Day 1
We arrived in Yangshou so early and had a walking tour of the area which took about 10 minutes because it was so small! Lovely though and definately the best place we'd been to in China. It was everything we wanted to see from China - amazing moutains, relaxed atmosphere, rice paddys... We had the first western style breakfast we'd had the whole time - I was so thankful! Rice and noodles for brekkie was beginning to get a bit tiresome!
That afternoon we did a chinese cooking class which was amazing. We had to go and buy all the ingredients from the local market and the lady who was taking the class asked us if we wanted to see the back area where they sell dog meat! We all agreed thinking it would be an experience - it was disgusting! They were hanging them up and all the dogs were in cages at the back. And then some dogs were being wheeled in in cages and they were barking and yelping. It was so sad, they weren't even mangey dogs, they looked really healthy and fluffy and cute... So sad...
Anyway we cooked sizzling beef, beer fish which is the delicacy in Yangshou and stuffed peppers. It was so cool and I'll try and make it when I get home I think. We were eating what we had made as we went along and not to blow my own trumpet - mine tasted pretty good!
That night we got a bit drunk around the town and ended up going clubbing - the whole place was full of locals - we stood out like sore thumbs! The bar we went to was pretty cool though and you could write on the walls. I wrote Jenn was ere - original I know!
Day 2
We got up early so we could do our cycling through rice paddys and mountain climbing. I'd pretty much booked the China tour on this part of the trip alone so I couldn't wait. I had a pink bike and the ride was wicked - we cycled for about an hour and a half till we got to a mountain called Moon Hill. The climb up took about 45 minutes and I've never sweated so much in my whole life! We made it all the way to the top though - some of the group only went half way. I was the first one down the hill and got a clap when I arrived back.
After the climb we rode to a village where a local woman made us the biggest lunch. It was so nice and we felt well deserved after our trek. Then we had another 40 minutes on the bike back to Yangshou. We were all knackered!
Day 3
I really wanted to go Kyacking but everyone was too tired from the day before and said it was better to do it in Thailand - so instead a few of us went to do a calligraphy class where you learn how to write in Chinese. It was fun and I wrote my name a load of times and a few other cheesy words like 'love' and 'happiness'. I wondered how many people around the world have those symbols tattooed on themselves!
We potted around in the afternoon just enjoying the area, I didn't want to leave it was so pretty and the people were a lot nicer than in the rest of China where they're practically spitting in your face to get by you! Exciting times though because we were on our way to Hong Kong woo hoo! Our last overnight train of this trip - which I was pretty glad about!
More later! xxx
