OK then - so Hong Kong. It was very very frantic! We had absolutely no time at all to explore! A lot of people from the tour were staying on a couple more days but a few of us had to rush around the place like headless chickens - I was meeting Kelly in Bangkok the next night!
Day 1
We arrived at the land border from Yangshou and it took absoutely ages to get through customs. We were so annoyed with our tour guide by now because he had left most of us to try and get through customs alone - dn't think he said 2 words to us all from the train till he said goodbye later that day! Think he hated us for some reason but I don't know why because we were such a good group! Well I thought so anyway...
So we arrived and checked into our lovely hotel (rat free) and then went on a mad exploration. We went to Victoria harbour and then up and down the main shopping street. Hong Kong is AMAZING! It's a complete mix of London and China, really weird! It's dead western, has British plugs obviously cuz we used to own it! And the people are much trendier, there are white people everywhere which funnily enough took some getting used to!(We weren't special anymore!) its such a ool city. You could imagine yourself living there with no problems at all - everyone speaks English which we were so impressed with!
We went back to Victoria harbour that night to watch the infamous light show. I have to say I was a teeny tiny bit disappointed...the lights were oming off the skyscrapers and yeah its cool that they're all synced up and stuff, but I thought there'd be more lasers in the sky and the whole of Hong Kong would light up and then black out or something. Hmm maybe my expectations are too high!
That night we went out and everyone got really dolled up because it was our last night together. I was well sad, I'd got so close to some people but we were all arranging to meet up down the line as everyone was travelling afterwards. I have actually bumped into loads of them while I've been in Thailand!
We went to a few bars and met a random Australian that was travelling on our own so we took him under our wing. I for some reason thought it would be a good idea to play catch with a cactus and had pins sticking out my hands till the next day! Not wise...
Day 2
Oh dear what a surprise...stinking hangover and I mean worst ever! I had to suck it up because I was in Hong Kong for gods sake! And I loved it there and wasn't going to let a hangover ruin my one full day in the city. So we dragged ourselves up way too early and went to The Peak. You get a ferry to Hong Kong island which is the canary wharf area of Hong Kong and then you get a steep tram up to the top of a massive mountain to see some amazing views. It was so cool I loved it. See pics for amazing views. Then we wanted to go and see the giant buddah but it was on another island and we'd run out of time...
There was only time to get lunch and wander around the markets before we had to pack and make our way to the airport. I was getting a flight to Bangkok with an American girl - but she'd been told her flight had been cancelled! We went to the airport anyway hoping for the best and we made the flight fine which was good. I was on my way to Bangkok to see Kelly and I was so excited! Sad to leave Hong Kong though but I know I'll be back one day - anytime I fly to that part of the world or Oz or anything I'll just stop off there!
