Didn't set the alarm this morning which was nice. This was the first hotel where I had prepaid for brekky for some reason but it was a bit of a disappointment. Would have been cheaper and better to go to a local cafe for brekky. No worries, filled the spot. We headed towards Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestrana which in the world of bullfighting is the one you want to fight in. It means you have made it. I was here 10 years ago but still interesting to see it again. I know it is a cruel sport but it is their tradition and you have to respect it. There were some bull heads in the museum and we found out they are bulls that fought so well in the ring that the person in charge (can't remember what they are called) makes the decision they are not to be killed and they get taken off to pasture to retire peacefully. Unfortunately, each bull fight involves 6 bulls and 3 fighters and usually all 6 are killed. If the bull kills the fighter, the bull is then killed as is the mother as she has bred a 'killer'.
We then made our way to the Cathedral to do a visit there. Another long line to get in, had thought about buying them online last night but then forgot. It is this type of Cathedral that makes me wonder when it stops being a church and becomes just a money maker tourist attraction. 9 euros to get in, no candles for people to light and no quiet place for people to pray if they want. Even yesterday, when it was closed for service, they left the back door open so people could pop in and have a look (no charge) but you would think they would close it for services.
It is an amazing cathedral, has the remains of Christopher Colombus and my favourite is a painting of Saint Christoper, the patron saint of travellers. To finish up, we headed up the Giralda to the belltower. It was a series of 37 ramps up which is not as bad as stairs. Mum did well to make it up and down. Great views of the city, although jealous of the hotels we saw with pools on roof tops. I had looked for hotels with pools but they were quite expensive.
We then went and had lunch where we ate yesterday but this time we tried some different tapas including the Gazpacho, Seafood salad & Paella. Just as good as yesterday. Did some souvenir shopping on the way back to the hotel for a quick relax (time gets away too quickly). We then went for a walk to Plaza de Espana which is famous for its tile work and a great place for photos. Also went for a walk around Parque de Maria Luisa but very disappointed as it felt like it had been neglected. Fountains weren't working so water and basins looked dirty and flower beds overrun with weeds. Sad
Quick stop for dinner before we needed to be back at the hotel for our 10pm appointment with the private jacuzzi on the rooftop. Temperature was set for about 34 degrees so perfect as it had still been 40 degrees at 9pm. Crazy. 30 mins went way too quickly and before we know it, the next 2 were up to let us know it was their turn. Wish we had longer here to spend more time just wandering around the old streets and laneways and just get lost amongst them. Not to be though. Time for bed as I'm not feeling 100%. Hate getting sick on holidays!!
