Pretty easy day today. Had a late getaway from the hotel after doing some good old handwashing. Headed down to La Rambla and popped into a cafe for breakfast, eating a Biquini (Ham & Cheese Toastie). Slowly wandered down this famous stretch, enjoying the old buildings and taking our time. Introduced mum to the famous Mercat - La Boqueria. Had some lovely cherries and local meat. Such a mix of food, colour and noise.
Continued down La Rambla, past all the beautiful flower stalls before reaching the famous statues, busking for their money. Can't imagine how hot it is in some of those costumes. They earn every cent given to them. I'm sure there were more when I was here 10 years ago but then again, it wasn't summer so maybe that is why.
Found somewhere cool to have a drink and a break before heading to the Cathedral. We were able to go up on the roof for some city views before enjoying the serenity of the Cathedral. Some more beautiful stained glass windows. Yes Grandpa, we did see the geese. They have 13 here, one for each year of age the local saint was when she was martyred.
Back to the hotel for a quick dip in the pool before getting ready to head out for the night. We tried a local Tapa's restaurant for dinner....it was devine. So good. Now we know why there is always a line up, even at 11pm at night. Tried a variety of different dishes and none disappointed. Might have to try and fit another visit in before we go.
We then headed to the Palau de la Musica. We had bought tickets to a Flamenco show when we back at home still so hoping it would be good. It did not disappoint. Incredible how they move their feet. Some of it was choreographed but some of it is just them dancing what they feel. The guitar players have to watch the dancers and they have to play what they are dancing. Same with the singers. Quite incredible. Very enjoyable ending to the day.
