Good old jet lag. I was pretty much wide awake from 4am but mum managed to sleep on and off to about 7.30am. After getting organsied and having some brekky at the hotel we headed off to Casa Batllo, one of Gaudi's masterpieces. I saw the home 10 years ago but this time, along with the audio guide, you were given a device like a smart phone which showed you what the rooms may look like furnished or how Gaudi got his inspiration. For example a skylight in the shape of a turtle had a turtle swim away from it. I don't think you could ever get sick of his work. He really was ahead of his field all those years ago. It is so hard to describe. You really just have to see it I think and the photos don't do it justice. I love the use of the timber and blue tiles and the skylights...just love everything really...
We then checked out La Pedrera which is not as impressive inside but the roof top is pretty awesome. He still had some very cool and funky ideas with how to build and really did get his inspiration from nature.
We then sat down and had a couple of tapas to share with some much needed cold water before heading back to the hotel to enjoy the pool for a few hours. One of the main reasons we picked the hotel was because of the pool and it didn't let me down. Lovely way to spend an afternoon while still affected by jet lag.
We decided against doing anything else today except a hot shower and finding somewhere local to have an early dinner (by Spanish standards) before an early night to bed. We have tickets to Sagrada Familia tomorrow for 9am. We actually met someone in line at La Pedrera today around 12noon and she said she couldn't get tickets for today as they were all sold out. Glad we bought ahead.
