Well it gets light here around 5am and because our curtain is broken on the edge it floods the room with light. I ended up getting up for my eyemask to get some more shut eye. We finally got up around 10.30am this morning. Sleep was much needed. We headed out to a local cafe for breakfast and as I remember, the sizes are huge. I ordered a combo French toast expecting 1 piece each of the 3 flavours....no, there were 3 of each. Mum had an omelette which is served with hash browns and toast. There was no way we could get through it all. Filled us up for the day.
We wandered along the waterfront, down to the Mt Roberts Aerial Tram and up we went. This morning it was overcast and grey but as the day progressed, the sun started to come out, the clouds disappeared and it was a beautiful day. Up the top, we walked the 0.5mile Alpine Loop and were rewarded with some beautiful views. Bald Eagles flying the air currents, beautiful meadow flowers and even saw our fist squirrel for the trip. Through the binoculars we could see some mountain goats and then we had a great view of 2 eagles sitting high up on their tree. It was a lovely couple of hours and worth the trip up. The views of the Gastineau Channel, the surrounding mountain tops, with splotches of snow here and there were just beautiful. Can't wait to get on the ship and see more of it.
Back down on the tram and wandered back to the hotel. It is 9pm at night and feels like it could still be 5pm with the light outside. Tomorrow we join the ship but not till around 4pm so we are going to try and get out to visit the Mendenhall Glacier.
I don't think there is Wi-fi on the ship so there may not be any entries until we return in a week, hopefully with some amazing stories to tell.
