Frey Kat Danielle's SEA Travels
Thanks to everyone for coming to my send off, I can't say I am missing you guys yet, but I am sure it will come! (...and for those of you who went home early on Thursday night, you missed a crazy chocolate cake fight!)
The last few days have been filled with a train trip and many a bus trip, heaps of beautiful temples, ruins, markets and some yummy yummy food. My trip so far: Bangkok - Phitsanulok - Sukhothai - Chiang Mai (met up with Kat and Danielle)...
I won't bore you with the details but here are some highlights from along the way!
Bangkok:
- Being mothered by Aor, a beautiful Thai lady (who is a hostess on Thai airways... who I sat next to on the plane), she sorted out my vego meals when they got stuffed up and took me to the cheat taxi line!
Phitsanulok:
- The train ride from Bangkok to Phitsanulok with the open windows, great views and signs that I couldn't read. It is a great pastime creating meaning for the signs on the sides of the tracks. They probably said 'stop' or '40km', but I reckon they said things like 'everyone is ripping you off because you are a tourist' and 'smile, you are on a crazy adventure!'. I also sat next to this Thai lady who was trying to talk to me in Thai for the whole trip (although I have a few words under the belt, I was definitely clueless!). If there is a universal language, it is comprised of smiles, nods and shrugs! - A Thai country music bar with a Thai singer that I swore had to have permed his hair! Not to mention that this was the place of my very first Thai beer (I am sure there will be many more to come)...
- The bus trip from Phitsanulok to Sukhothai aboard a very pimped up party bus. It had red vinyl seats with white daisy's, a bed, a mirrored roof, disco lights, mini rotating fans, collages of monks and pop stars and a TV that featured Thai karaoke with crazy pop dancers wearing minimal clothing for 40 minutes! Let just say... I wanna get me one of those buses!
Old Sukhothai:
- Cruising around the ruins of the old city on a 'crocodile' bike. There were so many amazing Buddha's and temples. It was a beautiful place to sit and contemplate times gone by.
Chiang Mai:
- I met up with Katrina and Danielle. We are staying at Libra Guest House, its awesome!
-The Ciang Mai zoo! Along with the beautiful Thai birds, we saw lots of crocs, tigers, jaguars and yes... wait for it ... emus!
-The Night Markets. So much cool stuff! It is lucky that I am on a budget and have to carry everything around for 6 months otherwise I could have bought up big!
Until next time... love, light and happiness
Frey
