We make our first landing on santa cruz and walk a tour on a rocky, dry landscape. There is moss, grass, and small trees with greyish wood and little pale leaves. We are totally amazed, as this island is packed with life. I've never seen anything like this before. There are land iguanas everywhere. Probably the most amazing thing here are the birds. The air and the trees are full of them, mostly fregate birds - large elegant birds that already followed us on the boat. The males have a red inflatable bag under their picks (see pic), with which they pose for the females.
It is astonishing that the animals do not mind us at all. Apparently most higher animals on the galapagos do not have natural enemies, so they most don't care if we come very close (like 1 m), and sometimes they even come close because they're curious. Compared to this incredible experience I must say that I have hardly seen any wildlife before.
