Day 3 - Wednesday - Reid Glacier
Spent the night on the east side of an Russell Island in a sheltered spot then headed over to Reid Glacier at first light which is about 4.30am. Still water with wonderful reflections all around of snow covered peaks & green forest right to the shore. Felt a bit sad to miss out on kayaking again here but went on a skiff tour again & it turned out to be a much better experience. Had Linda the ranger with us & Hannah tour guide so we were told so much information about the region, names of mountains & stories of gold miners as we went through the ice flow of bergs coming off the Johns Hopkins Glacier. Had some ice to look at & taste then landed next to some giant icebergs on the grey gravel rocky beach & I was in photo heaven. The ice has some truly wonderful patterns deep inside it & some beautiful forms carved by the water - they could have left me there all day! Apparently if you eat glacier ice you will live to 125 years of age!! Mmmm- hope not, unless I can keep traveling to spectacular places like this!
