Test Run
Day 2 - Tuesday - Bartlett Cove & Glacier Bay
Morning rainforest walk on the river trail with Pam & Ian through gorgeous green, green tall trees, moss hanging from them & also soft underfoot. Unusual fungi on the trunks & such soft light. Humpback whale skeleton near the ranger station where we picked up ranger Linda for our 2 days in Glacier Bay.
Cruised up the bay via an island where we watched Steller's Sea Lions basking in the sun & having fun in the water. Started to see small pieces of ice float by then they got larger & larger as we approached the Grand Pacific Glacier & the absolutely awesome Margerie Glacier. Passed just 2 big cruise ships on their way out of the bay as we went in so by dessert time we were right beside the enormous 25 storey high wall of the glacier as it calved small? pieces into the sea. We could hear the roar of the ice breaking away & see the splashes.
This was the most awesome experience for me & I thought I'd never see anything to surpass the glaciers of Iceland but this was just incredible. The height of the wall of ice right next to the sea was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen - words fail me!
