Dear all,
This will be our last blog from New Zealand, although we may sneak a finally one in when we return.
Saturday, we got up to torrential rain (again!) and decided to head into Nelson again for some more art galleries. We bought some cool pieces before heading to Founders park which has lots of replica or moved old buildings from Nelsons early years. This was really interesting and very like St Fagans in Wales. We looked around the buildings and saw old industry.
Sunday, we headed up to Farewell spit ourselves as the tours were not running. We got to the spit and took a walk along the beginning of the massive beach. We then headed back along the coast towards Picton to where we were staying before getting the ferry back to the north Island.
Monday, we awoke to glorious sunshine and were able to see the lovely scenery from the ferry ride. This journey was a little choppy and James did not feel too well. Once in Wellington we revisted the Te Papa and went to the areas we hadn't been previously. We went on the interactive rides... which were fun but a bit motion sickening.
We went to find our accomodation for the night..... the Lighthouse!!! It was so cute and very quirky. Kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor, bedroom on the middle with a lounge/ viewing room at the top. We met up with Jen and Luke who took us to their place for dinner and we had a great catch up.
Tuesday, we drove up the west coast of the North Island towards New Plymouth. We wanted to see Mount Taranaki, which does look like Mount Fiji. We saw it but before we could get the camera out it got swamped by clouds. We managed to meet up with Friends of James' parents who emigrated almost 20 years ago. Considering we rang then today they were very kind in putting us up as well as giving us dinner.
Today we have headed towards Auckland, with a stop at the Waitimo Caves along the way. The caves were pretty amazing and we got to see lots of different formations as well as the famous glow worms.
We are currently in the suburbs of Auckland as we give Molly back tomorrow and we fly the next day back to the UK.
We hope you are all enjoying the blog and we'll be able to see you all in person soon.
Katie + James xx
