Dear all,
Well we are writing from our little flat in the UK, having finally got over the crazy long journey home and the jet lag. This is the last installment and completes the wonderful trip we have had.
Our last day in New Zealand started off with a sad good bye to Molly our trusty Escape Campervan. She has been with us through out the whole trip around both Islands. We moved from the campervan to our hotel for the final night in NZ, back to Sky City Grand. We dumped our kit and headed on the free shuttle bus to the Famous Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium.
This was a wonderful surprise, the aquarium was lovely. We watched the penguins being fed in their special penguin house which is designed to close to Antarctic conditions. We then found out all about the Antarctic explorers and tried to keep our hands in freezing water for 30 seconds.... we did both manage this challenge. We took the supercat through the Penguin enclosure (twice) and got some really lovely pics.
We spent the next hour watching fish, sharks, rays and turtle in the various tanks. After a spot of lunch at Mission beach James got kitted up for a snorkel in the fish tank at the Aquarium. Katie was nervous for James but he was not fazed and enjoed every single minute swimming with the fish in the huge tank.
We spent our last evening having dinner in the Orbit restaurant at the top of the sky tower, Auckland's highest building. The restaurant revolves so within 1hr you can see the whole of the Auckland skyline as well as the kitchen, toilets, bar and entrance lobby. We had some nice food and a few yummy cocktails.
We awoke on our final day in New Zealand, had breakfast and took the hotel shuttle to the airport. This started the mamouth 48hrs of travelling and waiting at various airports. James was sat behind an idiot who put his seat so far back it was practically in his lap but he did manage to sleep for a few hours. Katie spent her time watching 8 movies and eating the almost contiuous stream of food.
On our return to the UK we took a bus from London to Devon with a negative but very funny bus driver, we finally arrived in Exeter a little later than 4 were really glad to be home.
We have had a wonderful whistle stop tour of New Zealand and have tried lots of new and exciting things. We met some lovely people and ate some yummy food. We are glad to be home again but will keep these memories for ever.
Love Katie + James xx
