Rock on 7.30am meeting with the crew in the lobby with all of our gear! All of us excited of the prolonged 6 hour bus ride to Tena. We are off for a jungle home stay for 4 days! Lots of Trivial Pursuit and sleeping was the way forward. Although watching the driving was also very interesting! Passing on blind turns, up hill followed by honking at an on coming car... Nice! Then for about 20minutes we were in pot holes longer then we were out of them... Loving the Ecuador life!
Arriving at our new home for 4 days in the Amazon Jungle with the wonderful family who have given 16 'gringo's' a place to stay! There are hammocks everywhere and some incredible sounds and smells. Waterfalls, chickens, birds, food, damp leaves and so much green. We really were in the middle of the rain forrest!
We ate the most fresh fruits (picked that day) and met our special host family. We introduced ourselves in Spanish.... This caused a lot of entertainment for everyone! It also identified the confident speakers in this foriegn language.
We then did something I haven't done since I was 10 years old, we had our faces painted and flax head bands put on! It was incredibly interesting to learn about their symbols and their meanings. This was before hiking for 3 hours in the jungle, up water falls and under logs where Jeka(tour leader) said we 'may get wet'... Quote of the day! We did things that would not be allowed without lots of paper work and pre training back home. Everyone LOVED it.
I have spent a lot of time in hammocks just swinging and chatting with the group... Living the dream really! It has been like a wonderful holiday with so much laughing and adventuring with an awesome group of people.
