Hello again one and all .... I bet you're all so excited to get another update, and so soon as well!!! he he
Well, the last couple of days haven't been as adventful as the previous ones, but I guess that's a good thing - although they haven't been all together dull either!!
The truck was finally fixed and we were ready to leave the snake park (where I bought Kain-o a little pressent, and don't worry - it's not a snake!) at 6.15pm last night - only about 9 hours behind schedule, but as they say here 'No hurry in Africa!' ... so we headed off to Tembo (Swahilli for elephant) Camp at about 8.30 that night we literally pulled over our truck on the side of the road and started cooking up dinner, chille con carne (spelling?) for 25 people on the side of the road - you could hear the locals thinking 'what is going on???' ... 9pm at night a truck load of 'Mzungu's (that's what they call us here which means white people, but is apparently not offensive!??!!!) pull over in the middle of nowhere, bust out some mad cooking equiptment and make a feast of chille con carne, eat it, pack it all away back into the truck again and then drive off into the darkness ... as you do! he he. Anyway, after dinner it was straight through to Tembo Camp and we got to bed about 2am, then had to be up and at breakfast at 7am then following morning, so quick showers all round and back into the truck for the 7 hour drive to Dar es Salaam, which is the unoffical capital of Tanzania, very hot and bustling indeed. Camped at a lovely camping ground right on the beach and had a couple drinks over dinner last night, was lovely and relaxing. Got up this morning and had caught the ferry from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar .. and well, here we are! So the last day or so has been driving driving and more driving, but now we are here we are going to stay 4 nights and chill a bit, and finally do washing! Yes, that's right ... we stink and have to constantly wear dirty clothes, it's now just a game of which ones are the dirtiest and which ones can be covered with perfume or bo basher ... A game, I am sad to report that I think we are losing!!!!
Tonight we are staying in a town called Stone Town, and tomorrow morning we are taking a spice tour through the island and then heading to the old slave trading areas of Africa, I am excited about it but also think it's going to be very confronting, and a bit sad, well actually a lot sad!!! Then we are driving up to the North of the island to another town (can't remember the name) and staying there for the next 3 nights, not sure if there is internet there or not, but if so will jump on again. Our truck driver knows a guy who hires out motorbikes so we are going to hire a couple and go for a cruise on Thursday arvo, should be good, about a dozen of us are going and I think it'll be awesome riding on the beach!!!
Glad to hear Wil had a good party, and that Kain's learning the share, and let him know that we wish he was here in Africa with us well!!!
Hope Thomas' party goes well on the weekend Kel and make sure and keep us updated on what's happening back home!
Love and miss you all,
Spud and Fluke xxx
