We're still coming to grips with writing this blog and unfortunately the last entry we thought we'd posted didn't actually post so here's a quick abbreviation to catch up!
The Singapore stopover deal we got with our hotel has been amazing! It has included a whole range of free activities which has meant we've done heaps of things! Our second day in Singapore was spent at the zoo. It was incredibly hot, even hotter than the day before so as we wandered around the zoo we were searching for shade and cool spots - the polar bear enclosure was a great relief!
Brodie was are guide to the animals in many cases as he'd learnt so much from his classmates presentations - probiscus monkey, polar bear and leopard included.
After the zoo we headed back into town in search of lunch and then back to the hotel to check out and hang by the pool until our 9pm transfer to the airport. Again, in search of air conditioning, we ended up at an interesting choice of restaurants - Hooters (Asian style). Not exactly the most appropriate choice for a family restaurants but in fact there were a number of families there including a woman in a burka!
Taxis in Singapore are incredibly cheap so an easy way to get around. Singapore has been sterilised somewhat so the old food markets and stalls for cheap eating are difficult to find. Eating was not as cheap as we'd expected. Orchard rd was a heaving mass of people and noise - great for sightseeing with incredible shops and malls but certainly no cheaper than NZ. Chinatown was cheaper but we didn't spend much time there. Hence, no shopping apart from some ballet flats for Sophie.
