Hi all,
I've haven't done much since I last checked in. 24th Oct I travelled down to Townsville which took about 4 hours. I thought this place would be a bit lively as it is the second biggest city in Queensland. My mistake, It was pants!!. There wasn't much to do at all. I tried to get myself onto a farmstay tour where you muck about on horse back, do some cattle mustering and brand calfs and stuff, which would have been different. Unfortunately i was the only one interested and you need to get at least 3 people on board otherwise the tour doesn't run. He said he would get back to me but never did so that one went out the window. I had to entertain myself for 3 days as I was dumped in a room full of foriegn people who couldn't talk. I went round the town and walked for miles along the beachside esplanade which was alright, I managed to spot a turtle just off the shore, which was cool. It was bloody big as well. I went to the aquarium to check that out which was ok, but only really a time filler.
While I was here I booked a 2 day trip to stay on Magnetic Island off the coast which was wicked. Got chatting to an english couple from my hostel who were leaving the same day so we hung out together. We went walking round the island and up to the forts high up in the hills. You get too see wild koalas here and we saw 4 on the way up. While we were up there we could here the loudest grunting noise which sounded like a stuck pig. Thinking it was wild boar which are dangerous we armed ourselves with stones and sticks in case we were attacked as they sounded real close. Oddly enough we discovered later that it is actually the mating call of the male Koala's which was weird as I'd never put money on a noise like that coming out of cute little koala. Watched the sun come down as well which smart. Wandered across to some of the bays on the island for snorkelling but I had been in the water 5 mins and I split my finger open quite nastily on a bloody rock. It didn't need stitches so it's slowly healing up now. I was staying in a hut on a koala park where you live amongst tha animals, possums, curlews, etc. which was pretty cool. Held a croc, python and koala. Magic!!
After pratting around on the island for a couple of days, all 3 of us headed down to airlie beach (29 oct) where we are booked onto a dive tour out on the outer reef tomorrow and then the islands on Wednesday. Assuming I don't get eaten by anything, I'll let you know how it goes.
Take care guys
