So I arrived safely to the Charleston International Airport in the wee hours of the monring. My friend, De, picked me up on her way to work. Odd coincidence, it was "Bring Flat Stanley to Work" day at her job! So we traveled the few miles from the airport the Charleston Naval Weapon Station. We entered the Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility and set-up in De's office. It was a busy day writing reports, updating the ATC web page, meeting with superiors and customers. I got to tour the Infa Red Room, a simulation of a real IFR at an air station and also got to tour the ATC tower which is a simulation of ATC towers at Navy and Marine Corps sites. It was really cool to see what Air Traffic Controllers do and to see some of the computers and equipment in action. I'm now thinking maybe I could join the military, or learn to be a pilot.
After work we traveled towards downtown historic Charleston and ate at California Dreaming. They had delicious food and the view of Charleston Harbor was breathtaking. We also drove over the new Arthur Ravenel bridge and took in its awesomeness.
All and all it was a great day!
