Tales from Afar...
After a comedy bus journey from the south of the island (think: sardines in a minivan travelling at top speed on very dodgy and windy roads all to a heavy Reggae soundtrack...) I find myself in Rodney Bay. The self-confessed tourist centre of the island. with plentiful bars and restaurants all within walking distance, a delightful little beach on the caribbean ocean and a thriving "ex-pat" community, its not difficult to see why. I've managed to find myself a really cute little apartment at Villa Zandoli which has its own little pool overlooking the marina - very sweet but to behonest, also very lonely! But it is nice to have my own space. After the minimalism of the Reef Beach Huts, its nice to have somewhere where i can make my own food - and save a little on restaurant bills!
Forced myself to hit the town last (Fri) night. and sat here this evening, i am very glad i endured the discomfort and general awkwardness of going into a bar, ordering a drink and trying to make conversation with total strangers. After the initial surprise that a stranger was talking to them, people warmed up and i ended up having a bit of a jolly with an English girl called Caroline and (another) Dutch guy called Ronald. Discovered the joys of "Gurgleblaster" shots - something i will prob try and get you all doing in the not too distant future...and did LOTS of laughing.
ANd after such a "budget" trip so far, with wooden huts, cheap beer and crazy bus rides today i had the priviledge of finding out how "the other half" do it here on st Lucia. Caroline has VIP passes to all the Sandals resorts here on the island (she's the manager out here for Virgin) so she picked me up this morning and whisked me off to Sandals Grande where we proceded to enjoy the "all-inclusive" experience, all COMPLETELY gratis! Legendary. I'm now fgeeling somewhat burned and as such more-than-slightly knackered (prob something to do with the masses of scrummy food i also consumed today) so am yhaving an early night with my book and perhaps a nightcap before heading off on my adventure to Dominca tomorrow. REALLY can't wait!!!!
Love to all,
F Xx
